Alright, so the beehive sent me to archop which sent me to this "fresno cohousing community."
Feel free to come up with your own feeling about this after you take a look.
Facts
Couple of things I question.
I wouldn't trust my co-communitians to turn off the water while they're brushing their teeth, or turn off a light in an unused room. I'm sure the "master water meter" and "solar units" are effective, but if I were to be going out of my way to do things like said energy and water conserving actions I would just want some guarantee that others are doing the same.
I could list other things, but they all come down to neighbors. I wouldn't be able to trust, or pay a substantial price to "share" everything, like yard, common area, energy, water, meal making duties? Yeah. Weird.
You don't have to live in one of these communities to conserve or help the earth. Just turn off your water, keep the a/c or heater reasonable, lights off when your not in a room, normal ass crap. If I'm buying a house, better fucking believe I'm going to have a private yard.

Yea, I agree with you its wierd...I'm not too comfortable sharing all that with complete strangers that happen to be my neighbors. In all places I've moved to after I moved out of my parents house, I've never really spoken to any of my neighbors more than the usual hello and good bye if I pass them coming in/out of my apartment. However....it may possibly be fun if it was a community full of our friends??? That could be interesting...especially with us hahaha
Glorified dorm rooms. I guess it's great if you're a socialite.
Welcome to the "smart grid" future where the government controls everything you can and can't do. For the greater good. To "spread the wealth around"
If you don't speak to your neighbors Bianca it sounds like you are not Comrade material.
Its not even the gov. doing this, its a group of people puttin' this particular one on.
Ya I know. I'm just saying the future the gov't wants with the smart grid technology can (not saying it will) basically force your air conditioner/heater off if you try and set it above the government mandated max settings.
Makes me think Atlas Shrugged and 1984 could become a reality here. (From what I hear. I'm illiterate so I can only go by what people tell me these books are about.)
I agree with Bianca, it might be fun if it was all of our friends. We could call each other Comrade and we'd just have to realize that Kyle will never do dishes, and I'll never be around during Laker games. (Or any basketball game really)
Eddies house is actually on that plan. I think thats why his house is usually hot. Correct Bianca?
To reply to Justin: No, I'm not very friendly to strangers/neighbors, if the Gov were to take over I'd be the first one kicked out for sures hahaha however if it is all of us, then of course I would be very neighborly and I'd be down for weekly dinners and such....and count me out for basketball games as well...actually count me out for sports in general unless we're physically playing them...then I'm totally in!
Reply to Rick: Indeed you are correct Rick! The house is signed up on that PG&E program where during peak times PG&E shuts our a/c off by turning the set temperature up, but the unit is not completely off, just set at a higher temp so that it won't kick on....it sucks....no bueno
Yep, that would be the smart grid.
